Breakfast is available from 7:30 AM to 8:05 AM.
👮Safe Entry Procedures & Expectations
To help maintain a safe and secure learning environment, Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy will conduct Safe Entry procedures on most mornings in the cafeteria.
Before Coming to School
Students should bring only items necessary for that day's learning. Avoid bringing non-essential items that may activate the metal detectors, such as:
- Hair spray or aerosol cans
- Weights
- Metal combs
- Other unnecessary metal objects
Repeatedly bringing non-essential items that trigger the metal detectors may result in those items being confiscated until they are picked up by a parent or guardian.
Safe Entry Process
- Students will enter the cafeteria through Door A.
- Before walking through the metal detector, students should place any items they know may activate the detector (such as laptops, umbrellas, or similar items) on the designated table.
- Students will proceed one at a time through the metal detector.
- If the detector does not sound, students may retrieve their belongings and continue to breakfast or report to class.
- If the detector activates, the student will be directed to a secondary screening conducted by an administrator.
Our goal is to complete this process quickly while ensuring the safety of everyone in the building.
👀Student Expectations
- Arrive at school with only the materials needed for learning.
- Follow all staff directions during the Safe Entry process.
- Never open or hold a door to allow another student to bypass Safe Entry. Doing so is a serious safety violation and will result in disciplinary action.
→Arrival & Tardy Procedures
Students are expected to report to their first-period class by 8:10 a.m.
- Students arriving between 8:10 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. will report directly to class after passing through Safe Entry, without obtaining a tardy pass.
- Once a student leaves the cafeteria, they are expected to report immediately to their assigned classroom. Students who fail to report directly to class after entering campus may be considered to have skipped class.
- Students arriving after 8:30 a.m. must report to the Front Office to complete a secure check-in before receiving a pass to class.

🚫 Please Do Not Turn Around
To keep traffic flowing safely:
- Continue following the traffic route around the practice field
- Exit back onto E. 12th Street
- Do not make U-turns or turn around in the parking lot
🚗 Car Riders
- Turn onto E. 12th Street
- Line up on the right side of the road
- Turn right into the side parking lot
- Follow the designated traffic pattern
- Students will exit their vehicles and enter the campus through the rear entrance, where WSPA staff will greet them and direct them to the cafeteria.
🚌 Bus Safety
School buses always have the right of way.
If a bus has flashing lights and the stop arm extended, all vehicles must stop until it is safe to proceed.
🚶 Walkers
Students walking to school should:
- Enter campus through the cafeteria entrance until 8:30 AM.
- After 8:30 AM, enter through the Front Office entrance.
🚸 Safety Reminder
For everyone's safety, walkers must cross streets only at designated pedestrian crosswalks.
Please do not cross in the middle of the street or between parked vehicles.
🚌 Bus Riders - Bus riders must report to Room 019
At Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy, we want every bus ride to begin and end safely while ensuring students arrive at class ready to learn.
Students arriving by bus will:
- Exit the bus and report directly to the cafeteria.
- Eat breakfast if they choose before reporting to class.

If a student's bus arrives after the normal breakfast window:
✅ Students will still be provided the opportunity to eat breakfast.
✅ Staff will provide a late pass so students can report to class without being marked tardy.

- Students will report to the cafeteria.
- Students will sit quietly with other riders assigned to their bus number.
- WSPA staff will supervise students until their buses arrive and will dismiss them by bus number.

Our dismissal procedures are designed to keep students safe while moving families through the line as efficiently as possible.
🚗 Pick-Up Procedures
- Enter from E. 12th Street
- Turn LEFT into the side parking lot
- Remain in your vehicle
- Follow the traffic pattern and staff directions
- Please do not cut in line
📝 Help Us Find Your Student Quickly
Display a large, easy-to-read sign with your student's name on your dashboard or windshield.
For the fastest pickup:
✔ Write the name in large, dark letters
✔ Keep the sign visible until your student is in the vehicle
Our staff will use the name card to call students for dismissal.
Students will be released only after their names have been called.
🚧 Cone Loading System
Staff members will direct vehicles to a designated loading cone.
Please:
- Stay at your assigned cone
- Remain in your vehicle
- Allow staff to safely direct students to your car
This process helps us move hundreds of students safely and efficiently every day.

📚 Tutoring & After-School Activities
Students remaining on campus after dismissal must have a designated destination.

Students participating in tutoring must:
- Report immediately to their assigned teacher's classroom.
- Remain with the supervising teacher until dismissal.
Students may not wait in hallways, common areas, or outside classrooms.
🏀 Student-Athletes
WSPA student-athletes who are in season must:
- Report directly to their assigned practice location immediately after dismissal.
- Follow all expectations established by their coach.
🚫 Students Remaining on Campus
Students who are not participating in tutoring or athletics must leave campus at dismissal.
Students may not remain on campus to socialize, wait for friends in front of the building, congregate in parking lots, playing fields, or outside entrances unless supervised by a WSPA staff member.
